Conservative social theorist Charles Moscowitz argues that American society, founded on conservative principles, was established by a counter-revolution in 1776. In this latest installment of conservative social theory, The Populist Wave: The Origin and Rise of American Populism and Nationalism, Moscowitz examines American society from the Pilgrims to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, and the MAGA movement of today.

This book takes its place alongside the multitudes of leftist social theories that dominate the field of Sociology. Claiming that Sociology requires conservative theory in order to retain long term legitimacy as a social science, Moscowitz proposes that American universities, in order to retain legitimacy as centers of higher learning, must develop fields of conservative studies to stand alongside the various leftist studies disciplines including racial, ethnic, gender and feminist studies.

Asserting that The specter of populism is rolling across America and the world today Moscowitz identifies an organic and growing movement that is re-defining the old politics of left and right, ideas that are increasingly being replaced by a conservative movement that includes intersectional alliances with libertarians and various disaffected liberals and free thinkers, all of whom stand opposed to what Moscowitz calls a growing international informal aristocracy.
